Posted by admin in : Blogging Strategy , trackbackFor those of you who are often involved in projects or businesses, may already be familiar with SWOT analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats. Albert Humphrey creation strategy in the 1960s, is a powerful way to identify internal and external factors that support and that is not in achieving a goal.
Does this strategy can be applied to blogging? Can. At least in my opinion because I have applied it to ICT Learning blog. Here’s sharing my experience.
In May 2009 then I have a desire to make a blog with Technology niche which contains information of Networking and CMS Webmastering accordance with my hobby in internet browsing and computer repairing, but beside educational blog, I want can make money (monetize). However, I am confused as to what makes blogs so my goal is reached (technology sharing = make money).
SWOT Analysis is to remove my confusion so I can identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Strength
To find the strength, I ask myself: What makes my blog different from other blogs? Posting what I write that will benefit the reader? I’ve read ebook from one of the famous blogger “Yaro Starak”: “Always write an pilar article that has benefits for others as a free tutorial article”. Experience what can take me exist in the path of blogging? It might be better when I find a way to solve problems in the workplace will be much better if shared with others through blogs, because it might be useful to readers.
After a puzzled for days, finally met its strength:
- I have the experience to write 7 popular science articles in the local newspaper. Thus, I can share experiences and tips on writing to someone else.
- I have a good relationship with the bloggers on my free blog.
- I have little experience in WordPress setting and SEO (bought ebook Complete SEO WordPress and a bit to follow the discussion in SEO forum like forums.digitalpoint.com)
- I have training experience and personality productivity held company where I worked as NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is growing enlarge my dreams. This capital to inform the reader.
Weakness
No such power, I am very easy to identify my weaknesses. The following weaknesses should I avoid to minimize the problems in the future.
- Weakness in technical blogging (such as CSS, HTML, database, and php).
- Weakness in social media optimization tools (facebook, twitter, digg, technorati, stumble upon, youtube and podcasts).
- Not having an online business experience.
Opportunities
Opportunities are external factors. I define as a 50 percent chance of success and 50 percent failed. Here are my chances of identification:
- Join the famous blog community.
- Being a guest blogger on other blogs.
- Partnering with other bloggers to get information and written inspiration.
- Registering blog on PPC (Google Adsense)
Threats
Threats can come from internal and external. External threats include:
- Internet connection is slow.
- Hosting is down.
- Blog data missing.
- The decrease pagerank by Google.
That is the SWOT analysis that I apply in my blogging activity. Just to share and hopefully useful.
By the way, if you already know the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of your blog? If not, why not get done? Happy blogging..
